Jazz Workshop Jazz Workshop

As performing ensembles on-campus and off-campus, Jazz Workshop is designed to facilitate instrumental improvisation through the study of various forms of jazz, popular and world genres in the combo setting.  The music presented ranges from straight-ahead jazz, to fusion, funk, blues, rock, R&B, as well as world styles such as afrocuban, brazilian, and west african.  The ensembles of Jazz Workshop perform at the Jazz at the Clay performance series, the NCU Jazz Concert, Songs of the Season, Partners for Progress and various on-campus events.  Off-campus Jazz Workshop partners with HCMC and area churches in various outreach events, as well as other city-wide opportunities.  The NCU Fusion Ensemble, a part of the Jazz Workshop Ensembles, has been featured at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival

 

Jazz Workshop is open to music majors as well as non-music majors but is limited to upper classmen and sophomore students.  Freshman are allowed by audition only.  Rhythm Ensemble is the recommended pre-requisite for the course.  For more information please contact Jazz Workshop's director, Mr. Peter Shu at ppshu@northcentral.edu.
